June 13 2006 Marx

As I was going through my notes and shortening them to make them into excellent cramming notes for tomorrows intense cramming session, I stumbled across Marx and his theory that eventually there will be no need for government and laws etc and everyone will work in communities and be happy. Now as you should very well know I’m as communistic as George W. But I wanted to know how on earth you are meant to erradicate law? From birth we have rules, which are governed by our parents. Now if our parents didn’t tell us what was right or wrong and from birth we would do whatever we wanted and what we thought was right. Now if Marx theory were to be applied to all people that would in effect create the aforementioned situation. But with no government who would make sure the parents didn’t create rules? The community? But the community surely couldn’t enforce rules. As there is no need for law or government… So the community can’t be a government. But one can argue of course that people will have no need for any of this as this is all ingrained in their psyche. But who do you ingrain this into a newborn child. You can’t. So perhaps Marx realised this. Now secondly how does a community with no government and no hierachy pick who is to become a doctor? A doctor does a much more important job than a painter for example. In a society such as this you could argue that the doctor is no more important than a painter as a painting a house prevents it from rotting. Thats all very well, however a doctor can save the lives of the people whose houses have rotted, because of a negligent painter and have now got neumonia or something like this. So, now that we have established that a doctor is more important than a painter, how do you reward him? You can’t. This doctor who has saved the lives of a family can’t possibly be rewarded as everyone is equal. You can’t give him an extra portion of gruel. He certainly can’t drive a nicer Lada than the painter, he can’t live in a nicer house. Then how do you punish a negligent painter? He can’t have less gruel as he would no longer be equal. Now how do you pick this doctorand painter? Perhaps its decided a very long time ago back when there still was a government that the Icklanivic family will be doctors. And the painters will be the Ruskovanic family. But a doctor requires much more training and with no extra reward why bother? But of course you have been made to by this government. So your family becomes doctors whilst your neighbours are painters and your other neighbours are gruel cooks. But what happens if Mr Icklanivic only has one son and Mrs Icklanivic can’t have any more children. This son falls and suffers major brain damage. We now have two problems, one, young Icklanivic (lets call him Vladimir) needs special care and looking after. Which of course means that he won’t be treated as equally as the rest. And secondly he couldn’t attend medical school. So now this community is doctorless and Vladimir is no longer equal. Perhaps we could have different levels of equality. Perhaps children get more attention as they deserve, being children and all and old people and disabled people etc. But what about men and women, some will argue that women are kinder and more caring, so they don’t get the same equality as men. They may get a different equality and then could become considered less important. Now we are back to the 1800s. The simple answer to this is easy. Marx’s theory was bollocks! Any educated right thinking person can see this. Its one of those “wouldn’t it be lovely” type theories. People hear “everyone is equal, no rich and poor” and they think “wow that would be awesome” well for me its not! I like winning! I don’t win that often, but I love that feeling of winning, and in Communism or Marxism noone wins. Its simple. I want a BMW and a Range Rover. I don’t want the same BMW as my neighbour, I want my neighbour to go. Shit he’s got a Beemer! I’m gunna buy a bigger Beemer. That’ll show the bastard. This is why capitalism rules! Sure it’s not at all good for the people at the bottom. And thats why we need a term of Labour once every 10 years or so. Just to make sure there is a little more equality. BUT NOT TOTAL EQUALITY! (This is the liberalist in me talking).

May 2006 24 Crazy People

There are some crazy crazy people in this world. On tuesday we saw a crazy chap arrested outside parliament, it was rather amusing. Apparently he was making a paper plane with which to throw down into the House of Reps. When asked to give it up he said no, it was then confiscated. Then he ran round and jumped into the Press Gallery. This is illegal. Only press are allowed there. He was subsequently arrested and given a two year ban from Parliament. But the craziest thing of all was that he was asking to be pepper sprayed as he was getting in the Police car. Personally I would have pepper sprayed him. Then kicked him black and blue, slung him in a jail cell for three months then let him go to trial. But no they gave him a slap on the wrist with an over boiled cabbage leaf and said no going back to parliament for two years.
But this is why I am not a policeman, and also why I do not wish to be one.

Also the other monumentous thing that happened was Dr. Cullen… A man I usually cannot stand at all insulted the Hippy party. The moment I got to Parliament my anger was already boiling. I saw a green collapsable bicycle with a Green party sticker on it in the bike rack outside. Then there was the 1996 Toyota Corona Diesel that runs on Vegetable oil right outside the steps to parliament. Now that really made my blood boil! I cannot stand a fuel as alternative as that. I don’t mind biodiesel, in fact I think its quite good. However if I am to own a car I want it to sound like a car. If its a diesel I want that nice grizzly growly tractor sound. If I own a petrol I want to hear that lovely purr they make, or that nice loud grunty growl of a V8.
Not the sound of an overboiled saucepan of garden vegetables.

But back to Dr. Cullen. Ms. Sandlewearer (Jannette Fitz[hippy]simmons) was going on and on and on about public transport and she just would not let it go. Dr. Cullen would not back down and kept telling her that people still need private transport and cant all take the bus and that buses also need to use the road etc etc. In the end he got so angry with her that he said “People are not self-sufficient and they do not sit at home all day weaving baskets.” This made me very very happy indeed.

May 20 2006 Maori Party… Greens

In an attempt to procrastinate I was having a look at the Maori Party website, the entire homepage was delegated to how racist everyone is toward maori. But yet there were only two examples of this “racism” on their homepage. One was of how someone was trying to get into a club with a hoody that had a Maori party logo on it and was turned away because the bouncer thought it was a gang patch and gang patches aren’t allowed into clubs. Where is the problem with that. Take the jersey off and get over it. I am certainly not going to rock up to a club wearing a jacket with the National party logo on it, a) cos it is uncool and b) cos its just stupid. Also the maori party logo does look a hell of a lot like a gang patch. Its ridiculous to expect a bouncer to let someone in wearing it, they are only doing a job, it looks like a gang patch, gang patches aren’t allowed, you can’t come in. I would take the jacket off and go in.

The second example was just plain stupidness, two people were conversing in a shop in “Te Reo” and the shop owner said “we speak english in this country” well the shop owner is clearly an idiot and doesn’t realise that the country is bi-lingual nowadays. But be polite and explain to him that, it is a language, if you have a problem with it we won’t shop here, and we will tell other people not to shop here. This man clearly has a problem, but he has a right to have a problem, its certainly not a moral or even ethical right, but hey he can think what he likes. But it doesn’t mean that the rest of country is racist like that.

They also claim that the Labour party hasn’t given Maori enough money in the working for families package. Wait a tick… So they don’t want people to be racist… but they want to be singled out as a minority group that needs the government to give “our people” extra handouts… well to me thats racist. Its a fact yes more Maori are unemployed, yes more Maori earn less. But there is still a great number of non-Maori in this category as well. Asking for more handouts is not going to change this. All it will do is get people more reliant on hand outs. What they should do instead is start taking data from the socio-economic group itself, then start putting money into getting these families out working, and get these families into better housing and better lifestyles through education. Not handouts. I commend anyone who goes out to work whatever they do. Its better than sitting around moping about not having any money. Like the bloke who cleans car windows at the Maunu intersection in Whangarei. He is earning money and I commend him for that.

The Greens website was another funny one, they wish to promote more use of people walking and cycling. Well how the hell can you do that??? In Whangarei I live in the country, if I were to cycle to town it would take me 1.5 hours, not to mention the heart attack and cardiac arrest (I think they may be the same, but for now the cardiac arrest refers to no longer being able to breathe) as a result of cycling through Maunu mountain. So after my near death experience of cycling I have to put my bike somewhere. No problem. Bike parks, we now have these in Whangarei. However it’s Whangarei, there is a high-probablity of it being stolen. Now of course after a 1.5 hour bike ride. You are generally rather sweaty and this isn’t the most pleasent of all smells. As the Green Party are all a bunch of hippies, they are probably used to the smell of sweat, however I like to be clean and smell pleasant. And what happens if I’m going to a job interview?
I could walk to town, but this would take 3-4 hours. Which is ridiculous, and yes I may not be as sweaty, but as soon as I was there I would have to start walking home, which defeats the purpose of leaving in the first place.

Here in Wellington its a slightly different story. I am 10 minutes walk away from pretty much anywhere within the CBD. Janette would be happy with that. I can walk everywhere. But wait heres the problem. If I wanted to go out to my cousins place in Karori it would take about an hour and a bit to walk. Bugger that! I could catch a bus. But wait, I couldnt catch a trolley bus because the wires dont run through Kelburn. So I couldn’t take a Diesel engined bus, becuase this hurts the environment (never mind the fact that Diesel is far more econmical and clean burning than petrol). I know I could ride a bike, this is Wellington. Wellington has Hills! So again I would either have to rely on a pollutant bus, or the car. The car. The Green Partys natural enemy.

The Greens also insist on adding more windpower stations. I say brilliant! I have no problem with this. But of course they will use them to erradicate the car. They wish to use them to power their trolley buses. They say it takes two windmills to power sixty buses. Hmmmm so that means that to completely rid the country of the diesel engined bus, they would have to put in power cabling everywhere. On every street that a bus travels. Not to mention forcing Stage Coach and the other bus companies to sell their huge fleet of diesel engined buses and replace them with eletric ones. There is a problem with this. A bus is not cheap and an electric one, which would have to be purchased from Volvo -as they are the only company who produces them anymore (i got this from an article. So i may be wrong) and that would be rather costly.

They also wish the population to eat only healthy food. Hmmm that would mean forcing people to eat food they don’t like. And I am sure that forcing people do things that most would consider unreasonable goes against everything that democracy stands for. A government can encourage people to eat better, cos lets face it we dont eat very well anyway. But if a person wishes to gorge on McDs for the rest of their life its up to them. If they want to die at 30 thats their stupid problem.

I come from farming background originally and something that Janette said in Parliament the other day really bugged me. She was commenting on Fronterras 5% growth in the past year. I thought hey thats good, really good for one of our biggest industries, making me feel like a proud kiwi and begining to feel rather patriotic. However she decided to comment on the implacations this would have on the environment. THE BLOODY ENVRIONMENT! She seems to think that because 5% more cows fart we are going to have polar ice caps melting, then vehicle emisions from the 5% more tankers on the road, and the 5% more ships that need to freight the produce overseas. She is stupid. Incredibly stupid. There are far bigger issues facing this country at the moment than a few more cows farting! How can she question the Prime Minister on something so incredibly dumb? Im sure that Nandors pot smoking and her potato peel sandle factory pollutes more than a couple of cows. The growth in the dairy industry is good for the country you nit-wit. Go back to your commune and I hope you live happily with your non-polluting vegetable car and your zero-emission bicycle. I am off to buy Dodge Ram. The petrol version.

May 15 2006 Feminism

Why oh why? Why must this university put so much emphasis on feminism?
Today in Theatre we had a whole lecture devoted to feminism in theatre. Ok so 200 years ago, woman had very little in the way of rights. GET OVER IT! Noone cares anymore. Most girls agree with this. Why must there be a certain group who ruin it?
Yes woman get paid less. Why? Because they tend not to work in as higher paid jobs as men. Because they actually care for their children and want to spend time with them at home. Raising them. Sure men need to do this too. But I know when I was a kid and i hurt myself Id want mum. NOT dad. Kids appreciate mums more than their dads. Its a sad fact, but its true. As you grow older they begin to balance out more. But when you graze your knee at age five, all you want is mum to come kiss it better. Its because mum understands better than dad.

Why must it be rammed down our throats that woman want equal pay with men, equal rights etc etc. Well women have them now! Lets face the facts here. Female teachers get paid the same as male, female nurses, female CEOs etc etc etc. Now what some feminist staticions do is look at what woman as a collective make and what males as a collective make. Sure men make more money, its because more men are in higher paying jobs. Im not saying women arent, its a fact more men are in higher paying jobs. And thats usually because higher paying jobs involve tonnes more time, tonnes more energy and ultimately makes it very hard to raise kids. Lets face it, we are here to carry on the human race. Why else would we have the ability to create children?

Woman tend to go for lower paid jobs, because they are more flexible and easier to juggle round homelife and children. Not because they are considered inferior by their male counterparts.

Sure some men are stay at home dads, while mum is the one earning $500,000 per year. And it works for them. And thats awesome. I say you go girl!!!

However someday I wish to be earning lots of money, and possibly start a family. Hopefully nowhere in the near future, but someday. I would like to think that my children wont have to be raised by a daycare centre. I would like to think that someone would be there to pick them up afterschool and the like. Im not saying that should be the womens job. All Im saying is that its unfair on children to be raised by a day care centre while their parents work for some gigantic conglomorite.

Now that brings me to the end of this. Just one small note. Why must the Australs debating team be one third girls? Why? Its a rule. Isnt that just a tad stupid. So what happens when the uni debating club doesnt have one third female membership. They have to put all the girls in teams. Well wait a tick, doesnt that mean that some of the teams will have some not very good debaters? Thats a tad silly dont you think? The rule makers are trying to make teams lose? Again im not saying women are bad at debating. What I am saying is that a quota system is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!! (this in no way represents debsoc, its just hypothetical)

I am by no means sexist. I do not believe women belong in the kitchen, I dont belive their role is for cooking and cleaning, I think its ridiculous that Catholics still wont let women become priests.

But people Feminism has had its day. Everyone is over it.

These views are not just mine, I have talked to more and more girls about this and they agree.

May 09 2006 All work and no play make Jack a dull boy

Work, work, work. Well I wish that was the truth. I have been really lazy lately. I have a Theatre assignment due friday and haven’t even finished the play I have meant to be reading for it. ARRRGH! I think the great proverb above (its a proverb, the dude on Microsoft Encarta 1996 says it is!) sums it up quite well. All work and no play etc… well I am the opposite I have done no work and lots of play. So as of tomorrow, I shall be doing work, work and more work. I will finish that play, start my essay and hey if I’m in a good mood, glance out of the corner of my eye at my copy of Romeo and Juliet.

Now I have been told that I rant too much on my blogs. Well I’m sorry, but I just like to rant, its a nice outlet. It makes me feel better about myself and gives some people a laugh. I do not intend to insult anyone, its just my opinion so GET OVER IT! It’s not like I’m actually going to hurl mud at hippies as they walk by (although they would probably like that, as long as it didn’t harm the environment when I dug it up and as long as no snails, worms, centipedes and any other nasty little vermon didn’t get hurt in the process) so where is the harm? They don’t like my beliefs, so why should I like theirs. Ah I know because they are a minority and minorities are treated more than equally.

I am a firm believer in equity. Just because someone earns less money than someone else doens’t mean they should be treated as lesser beings. Just because someone is of a different gender doesnt mean that they should have lower wages. However equity is not what people want. They want more. They want white middle class men to pay for what their forefathers had done. Note that bit. Forefathers. Why should our generation have to pay for injustices caused in the past. The Germans don’t have to fund the state of Isreal, because some lunatic, who they elected out of pure desperation committed Genocide.

Where is the justice in taking money from the hard working middle-class and giving it to a Paedophile in prison because he had hurt feelings, because a prison guard was just a little bit nasty. Couldn’t that money be better spent elsewhere. Like student allowances for the masses? I’m not saying free education for tertiary students, it would be nice but ridiculous, but do away with that pittance of $150 per week and give all full time, recent school leavers the $180 per week, that some of us lucky few get.

Do away with race-based scholarships, why should someone get a scholorship just because of their lineage? What about some poor little Phillipino kid, whos parents might be immagrants struggling to make ends meet, but the kid is born here? Where does he get a break? Why should he have to work twice as hard for the privalages that others get because of their race?

Why not make these available to one socio-economic group?

Why must we have people sitting at home on the dole “actively seeking employment” doing nothing of no REAL benefit to society. I know that it’s hard for some people to find a job and I can accept that. I am not denying the need for the dole. Its a basic element of human rights. But why not get these people out there doing something? Why not get them building Transmission Gully? That would cut down the costs. It may not shut up the beardies but it would certainly keep the bean counters feel a little better. Plus a crap job like road-building, would certainly make me want to find a better job. I’d much rather be stacking shelves at Pak’n Save than road building.

This wont happen in the near future because a.) We have a Labour Government, who makes sure that if anyone but Middle-aged, mid-upper-middle-class men can get a handout whenever they want. (Beware middle-class white woman your next. and yes that means you Caroline)
and b.) New Zealanders have been treated like babies for so long that even under a National government, people would still expect their weekly handout from WINZ.

So in 2 and a half years time when it comes to vote. Vote ACT. They may be a bunch of radical right-wing dinguses but at least everyone will be on the same playing field.

May 04 2006 A government whose only policy is getting re-elected

I shall not feel bad for stealing Zaks wonderful qoute of the day as it is absolutely brilliant. If you need the story behind it, ask him as he was there.

Some may think that I’m about to rant and rave about the idiocy that is this government and its silly policys for a communistic New Zealand. But I shant… well not right now.

Thursdays are the worst and best day of the week. It is the only day of the week that I have four classes. FOUR CLASSES! I hear you say. How can he possibly manage? I hear you ask. Well it may have something to do with the fact that I am a super-being, who is able to get from one place to another in the blink of an eye. But this is not the case, as we all know I’m lying. The biggest problem with thursdays is that I have to be down at the Law School at 11.30, and seeing as my class finishes at 10.50 I have 40 minutes in which to get there. I have three options. Option 1 is take the bus. But on some days this is silly as the sun shines and the wind doesnt blow. Option 2 is take the cable car down and walk from Lambton to the law school. However this would cost me a dollar… and after buying a coffee, I wasnt in the mood for shelling out my dubloons to a grumpy old man inside a ticket box. Option three is walk and take the lift. But I am a lazy person. And quite frankly it was a cold day and walking to the lift was not an attractive prospect. So like the good greenie that I am *cough splutter* I opted for public transport, but only because its free.
There is a problem with this however because it means that I have 30 minutes to kill at the law school. Hmmm what to do. Walk around looking lost, brave the fourth floor and try and sneak past the security guard to get a glimpse of the Supreme Court judges. I think not. Go to the cafe and read the paper. The problem with that is the temptation to buy food, as I was hungry. No I did the tourist thing and gazed at the public galleries. Much to the bemusement of my law lecturer, who gave me a weird look as I walked into the old Cabinet room.

The best thing about Thursdays however is the fact that I get two hours of Law, and to top it off I was able to voice my opinion about the idiocy of the Bill Of Rights. The Lange government were morons aka Labour. Yes the Bill of Rights is good. And yes the Treaty should be left out. But it should have been entrenched or supreme. Everyone is now going to attack and maul me, calling me an extremist right-wing-wannabe-totalitarian-dictator. Which is not true. I want to be King.

As I am a very philosophical person – I hear Liz and Zak splitting their sides at this point – I see things and appreciate their beauty. Like today as I was walking to New World to buy supplies (known as 2 minute noodles) I stopped to appreciate the beauty that I was presented with. The contrast of the city and the green hills yonder. And the suburbian landscape that I was surrounded by. In my peripheral vision I could see Victorian houses with Punga trees and flax bushes round me. Looking straight ahead I could see the top of the Presbyterian Church the sprawl of the City and then in the distance the lovely Mt. Victoria.
However coming back I had different thoughts. The place I was admiring beauty from is called Dixon Street. And the Dixon St has the worlds longest flight of steps (I realise this is not true), and to walk up these steps you lost 30kgs and your lungs stop working and if God is being nice you get a Heart-attack. I no-longer admire that beauty I hate it! and I hate the Dixon Street and I hate the Moron who put the university on top of a friggin hill.

Hello to all

Hi all you people out there in the foriegn land of WordPress…
I am creating this as political venting mechanism here in lil ole NZ. I shall be touching on the very subtle topics of hippies and their idiocy, to the plain stupid hypocritness that is our govt.
But for now I shall add the pieces I have already written. I shall then endeavour to write a new piece each week.
